As we find Bistros, Trattorias, Cafes and Bars that look interesting to us on other blogs and websites we will document them here. After the trip, we will review the actual restaurants we went to.
1. Bar Amore - Great Panini's
Via dei Banchi Nuovi, 4100186 Rome (Piazza Navona)
Cost: €2.50
"Bar Amore has been around since the 1940’s and is a hub for many locals, office workers and students in the area. The place gets crowded in the mornings for breakfast and is also a hot spot for a quick lunch."
"If you’re nearby on a Tuesday, you must try the famous porchetta (pork) from Ariccia. It’s spettacolare!"
2. Il Gelato di Claudio Torcè, Rome
Best Gelato in Rome according to Parla Food.
3. I Caruso - Great Gelato
About a year and a half old, I Caruso is truly artigianale; not only is everything made on-site with fresh ingredients, but you can watch them make the gelato through the glass. The panna, in either normal or zabaglione flavors, is the best I've had in Rome. It's whipped fresh right there. And the gelato itself? It's out of this world. The extra-dark chocolate is the creamiest, richest I've ever had. Balanced off with a fragola that tastes like a just-picked strawberry, bursting-with-flavor melon, or with I Caruso's famous pistacchio, it's the perfect cup. Other options, which change seasonally, include mandarin orange, almond, and fior di panna.
Meanwhile, the servers are friendly, the place is super-clean, and the prices (€2.50 for a small, €3 medium, €3.50 large) aren't bad. You can also get gelato by the kilo here... a pricey option, but I can't imagine a better way to be a hit at a party. (Below, where the magic happens).
4. Fior di Luna
Fior di Luna is not only a gelateria, but they also make chocolate and sell other handmade items like cakes. They are Sicilian, and one of the most distinguishing things about them is their quality promise. Fior di Luna focuses on natural and high quality ingredients and selecting and knowing their suppliers.
5. L'Asino d'Oro
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: L'Asino d'Oro just might be my favorite restaurant in Rome. At least, it's in the top three. Here's where to go when the idea of more cucina romana, or of checkered tablecloths, makes you want to get on the next plane to anywhere. Yes, the food is Italian—but it's Umbrian. With a twist. No amatriciana on the menu here; instead, look for deliciousness like stewed wild boar in a sweet wine sauce. The atmosphere is sleek and modern, the staff professional, and the prices good. If you're pinching your pennies, you also can't beat the 3-course €12 tasting menu at lunch.
L'Asino d'Oro is located at Via del Boschetto 73 in the heart of Monti, a short walk from the Forum or Colosseum. Call +39 06 48913832 for reservations.
6. La Taverna dei Fori Imperiali- #6 on Trip Advisor
The best in Rome!”
I'm a foodie and this place and the people there are awesome, friendly
and genuine. Ate there twice and we let the owners daughter pick out our
meals both times for us. Amazing!!! Simply put. GO there and you will
be so happy u did! Best meals we ate in Rome were here. The pesto
ravioli is the best!!
7. Rivendita Libri, Cioccolata e Vino
Chocolate Shot Glasses8. La Carbonara
Two visits in the same week. Excellent both times. Very busy but got a
table after a short wait in the front on our first visit. Made a
reservation on second visit (with an Italian friend) and sat in the back
which was full of locals. Would return again. Great food, great
restaurant.
9. Trattoria Monti
I
first came here years back with a couple Roman friends. It's a very
affordable, dependable little trattoria with food from the Marche (on
Italy's east coast.) A Roman standby and a bit unique in its
neighborhood (close to Piazza Vittorio, which has since become Rome's
Chinatown.
10. Lo Zozzone
Cheap good Pizza...no place to sit
11. La Danesina
The most wonderful homemade tomato soup with thick slices of fresh
Mozarella floating on top. A favorite. Their meat dishes are better
than the pastas.
12. Armando al Pantheon
I will add a second to Armando al Pantheon. Our hotel reserved for us
and we were the only Americans in there with every table filled.
Wonderful food and I thought reasonable for Rome.
